Ummmm, yeah?!?!?
I just finished scanning a story from the news that folks who self-identified themselves as "elected officials" averaged a 44% on a quiz of civic knowledge. The report on this sad state of affairs was released by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. I haven't yet taken the quiz due to time constraints, but I will. It's very scary when some of the folks we elect to represent us and administer our towns/counties/states/what have you fail a quiz like this....
"Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
-George Santayana
